Utah Shakespeare Festival unveils plans for new theater

Representatives from The Utah Shakespeare Festival revealed their plans for a new $26.5 million theater in Cedar City. The new theater will feature seating for 900 people, with three floors. The theater will also have restrooms on all floors and have heating and air conditioning. It will also be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The theater will include a retractable roof, allowing the feeling of an outdoor performance while giving shelter from the elements. According to a news release issued by the Utah Shakespeare Festival, the theater will allow the festival to host additional performances, increasing annual attendance by 25 percent, bringing an estimated 30,000 additional patrons to Cedar City each year.Construction of the new theater will begin in 2013, and the Adams Memorial Theater will be demolished once the new theater is complete in early 2015.
