Dixie State College breaks ground on science building

Dixie State College broke ground for a new science building Friday, its latest effort to transform the school's campus into a full-fledged university. The Edward H. and Idonna E. Snow Science Building will begin as an expansion of the Val Browning Library on the north side of the campus, creating a two-story structure that will house chemistry labs, a geology lab and storage for the classes. Westland Construction officials said the science building will be completed on an accelerated schedule by Aug. 20, in time for it to be dedicated for the fall semester.

The library will be relocated to the new Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial Commons Building once the building is completed May 23, then the Browning building will be renovated to add offices and classrooms for mathematics and the physical sciences. Other anticipated projects include the destruction of the Edith Whitehead Student Services Center to make way for an outdoor study area, as well as remodeling projects at the North Instructional Building and the school's family science building.
