Washington County Veterans home moves forward

Federal funding is available this year for a much-anticipated nursing home facility for southern Utah area veterans, although a political battle continues as to where the facility will be located. In a letter sent to the state Department of Veterans’ Affairs Monday, a consultant with the U.S. VA advised that funds would be available through the VA’s Construction Grant Program to build a 108-bed nursing home care center in Washington County, where area veterans could receive care with half of the costs covered.

Once the Legislature frees up the state funds, the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management will evaluate the proposed sites to see if they meet the requirements. The VA will then select a site. The Spectrum
