Cedar City Care and Share shelter expands

Iron County Care and Share is preparing to open expanded areas of its 1-year-old emergency shelter as the finishing touches are being put on the second phase of a construction project. Officials expect the expanded areas of the shelter to be ready for use within the next two weeks.

Once the second phase of the shelter is completed, it will have the capacity to provide temporary housing for 19 men, 11 women and up to three families at one time. The shelter received a grant of approximately $138,000 to build the expansion onto the shelter, using $46,000 of the unused funds from prior donations as its required contribution to receive the grant.
