Road Construction Projects in Washington County

Several major Washington County road projects are nearing completion, projects transportation officials say will not only ease traffic in certain areas but usher in a new era of connectivity.  By the end of the summer, work on the Dixie Drive Interchange, Red Hills Parkway and a variety of widening projects will be complete. Officials said the projects will create a linked thoroughfare throughout the city and make driving in St. George a lot faster and more convenient. The Spectrum

Located off Interstate 15 near mile marker 6, the $75 million Utah Department of Transportation Dixie Drive interchange project is the biggest traffic game changer in St. George. According to calculations by the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization, the interchange will bring the vehicle count at nearby Dixie and Riverside Drives from 17,000 to 22,000 cars per day. Both streets are currently undergoing widening projects to accommodate the additional traffic.

2013 projects are expected to focus on alleviating problem areas. The plan for upgrading I-15's St. George Boulevard exit would have the largest impact on St. George. Under that plan, UDOT would contribute $16 million to build an interchange, while the city would pitch in about $500,000 for improvements to St. George Boulevard.
