State water managers will have to continue searching for a way to fund a $1 billion water pipeline from Lake Powell to southwestern Utah after a legislative committee denied a proposal Wednesday to earmark funds for the project.
Citing concerns about Washington County’s ability to repay a state loan and more general questions about the state’s funding structure for water projects, the Revenue and Taxation Interim Committee voted 11-2 against a measure that would earmark future sales tax revenues for water projects such as the Lake Powell Pipeline.
