Cedar City Council passes transient room tax

The Cedar City Council has unanimously approved a transient room tax. The 1 percent tax will be levied on individuals staying at hotels, motels and other areas of lodging where people generally stay less than 30 days. The ordinance says 50 percent of the revenue generated by the tax will go to event support, 40 percent to marketing and recruitment for events and 10 percent to a reserve fund. Estimates are that the tax would have generated $174,000 in 2012. The Spectrum
