Graduation rates rise in Southern Utah

High school graduation rates are up and dropout rates are down in the Washington County School District, keeping pace with overall state numbers, according to data released Tuesday by the Utah State Office of Education.

In Washington County, Dixie High and Snow Canyon High had the highest jumps, with an 8 percent increase each from 2012 to 2013. Dixie’s graduation rate improved to 88 percent while Snow Canyon jumped up to 92 percent. Enterprise High reported a 100 percent graduation rate, up 7 percent from 2012. Desert Hills had a 91 percent graduation rate for 2013 and Pine View reported 87 percent, followed by Hurricane High (84 percent) and Millcreek (49 percent).

Iron County School District also reported an upward trend in graduation rates and decline in dropout rate. Parowan High School was the ICSD’s top performer, recording a 12 percent jump to 98 percent in 2013. Canyon View checked in at 87 percent, followed by Cedar High (79 percent) and Southwest Educational Academy (46 percent). The Spectrum
