Ironman gets economy's blood pumping

About 2,800 athletes and their supporters are streaming into St. George for Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 St. George, which officials say should bring between $5 million and $6 million to the local economy.

With the largest field in the five-year history of Ironman events in St. George, including nearly 100 professionals and more than 20 current or former world champions, organizers are planning on between 10,000 and 12,000 visitors to hit the area. It could be the area’s largest single-day event in economic terms, and a major tool to market the area’s growing outdoor recreation and tourism industries. The Spectrum
