New construction in St. George

A new bridge over the Virgin River at Mall Drive is currently under construction in St. George. The project is the centerpiece in a multi-faceted, $14 million overhaul of the traffic patterns on the east side of the city. Combined with a series of improvements along 3000 East and new roads planned farther south, the bridge has been touted as a key to easing the traffic congestion that has started to build up along River Road and other east-side roadways due to new development in the fast-growing Little Valley and Washington Fields areas.

Contractors are pushing to get the bridge open by September. Traffic models suggest the bridge could eventually handle 30,000 daily crossings. The Spectrum
