New bridge brings new St. George development

The St. George City Council approved a scaled-back request to change its general plan to accommodate plans for commercial development along the south sides of the intersection of Mall Drive and 3000 East.

The 24-acre property, owned by Property Reserve, Inc., the commercial real estate arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is currently made up of green fields and zoned for agriculture. With the new general plan designation, it could be headed toward a transformation into retail shopping and professional offices, part of the development that appears inevitable given the already steady flow of vehicles brought in by the new traffic connection.

Across the north end of the bridge, new developments are planned along the east side of the road, and open spaces throughout the area appear likely to see more crop up as traffic increases. The Spectrum
