New St. George shopping center moves ahead

The St. George City Council approved a zone change on about 15 acres of the proposed Boulder Creek Commons on South River Road. For years, developers have planned to develop the area around the intersection into a shopping zone, arguing it would provide much-needed commercial areas to cut back on the amount of traffic heading into the central part of the city and bring in new tax revenues. Two new businesses have already moved in on the north end of the development — a Maverick gas station and Jiffy Lube vehicle service center — and the plans call for restaurants, retail stores, a grocer and other potential services.
