St. George I-15 project moves to next phase

Crews will be starting work on another phase of construction along Interstate 15 through St. George, marking the beginning of a yearlong project that will add new lanes to the freeway between Brigham Road in Bloomington and the Dixie Drive Interchange.

The expansion will include two new bridges over the Virgin River where I-15 enters the main city center, along with “auxiliary” lanes in either direction designed to allow drivers on and off the freeway without merging into through traffic or needing to change lanes. Similar auxiliary lanes are already built between the Dixie Drive and Bluff Street exits. It’s a major project anticipated to cost some $28 million to build, with construction scheduled to last at least until December. The Spectrum
