From now until October, travel is restricted on Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Zion Public Information Officer Erik DeGroat said while last week's car count for the south entrance was on par with last year, east entrance counts - the entrance directly affected by construction - were about half of what they normally were.
On a normal June weekday, the east entrance sees 800-1,100 cars. Since construction began, that number has hovered at about 400 cars.
The park expected those numbers to be down, however, and DeGroat said things could be a whole lot worse.
"It doesn't seem like anybody's not coming," he said. "Most people seem to be dealing well with it."
Zion Canyon Visitor's Bureau President Dean Cook said the situation hasn't hurt nearby businesses as much as many expected, but added it's still very early in the process. The Spectrum
