New Ivins Veterans Care Center Opened

Lt. Gov. Greg Bell joined veterans and area legislative representatives to open the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The $19 million facility includes 108 single-occupancy "pods" that will house veterans who need the assisted living conditions of a care center. And unlike previous veterans homes, the Ivins facility will include luxuries such as a private bathroom for each living quarters as well as individualized food options.

More than 110 people have applied to enter the Veterans Home, but it won’t be filling up yet. The center has to pass licensing and certification reviews, and it must have 21 residents in place before the Veterans Administration will survey it to see if its residents qualify for matching federal funding.
