Development Plans in St. George

In a sign that the economy is humming along in St. George, the regular city council meeting ran to four hours as members considered a steady stream of development proposals. Among the larger items considered were the conceptual building design plans for a pair of changes to Stephen Wade auto dealerships on Hilton Drive, including the proposed construction of a new building located in the middle of what is now 1700 South — a road vacated by the city earlier this year to make room for the building.

The council also approved a zone change request to change 23.7 acres of residential zone north of Fort Pierce Industrial Park into open space, paving the way for Progressive Contracting Inc., to request an expansion of its gypsum mining operation there.


Another request also earned approval, with Questar Gas getting a hillside permit to cut into the hill on the southwest corner of the intersection of Snow Canyon Parkway and Bluff Street to build a natural gas regulator station.

The council also approved two final plats, one a 10-lot subdivision at 2030 E. 1350 South and another a two-lot commercial subdivision at 717 S. River Road, as well as several preliminary plats and other development-related requests. The Spectrum
