Builders in Southern Utah staying busy

St. George permitted 160 new buildings in June, a 10 percent increase compared to May, according to a new building report compiled by the city.

The first six months of 2013 have seen 751 permits total, with a total valuation of more than $90.4 million — a 45 percent jump compared to the first six months of 2012. Through the first six months of the year, there were 376 permits for single-family residential units, up dramatically from the rates seen during the recession. The city reached its low point in 2009, when there were only 246 permits granted for the entire year. The Spectrum
