Horseshoe pitching championships bring economic infusion to southern Utah

The Red Rock & Ringers National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament got underway at the Dixie Convention Center, starting a two-week competition that involves more than 1,000 athletes from 46 states and five countries, including most of the best pitchers in the world.

For Southern Utah, the tournament is expected to be a big winner economically. Some 4,000 visitors coming and staying several days a piece adds up to $3 million to $4 million in economic impact, according to the St. George Utah Area Convention and Tourism Office, in addition to the benefits that come with the exposure.
