Council moving ahead with plans for all-abilities St. George park

After watching an extensive presentation showcasing the possibilities of a new all-abilities park geared toward people with disabilities, including a total of some $4 million worth of options like a 2,700-foot train ride, 20-foot tall volcano and dinosaur-themed play equipment, the St. George City Council gave verbal approval last week to move forward with designs and plans for construction of a first phase.

The first phase of construction is estimated at $2.4 million, slightly more than the $2 million approved by the city in this year’s budget, but additional funding would be needed for some of the more spectacular additions, including just under $1 million for the train and another $1 million for other features such as a waterfall, faux rock walls and the volcano.

Officials say hundreds of thousands have already been pledges from prospective donors, as well as others volunteering their time to help build the facility. The Spectrum
