St. George redevelopment project takes another step

The largest redevelopment project in the history of St. George’s downtown area could be under construction before the end of the year, with the St. George City Council unanimously passing a series of measures to push along the “City View” project.

The massive new development has been touted as a $30 million makeover for the heart of the city, taking up most of a city block on the southwest corner of the intersection of St. George Boulevard and Main Street. A four-story boutique hotel would sit on the corner, currently a parking lot adjacent to the Bear Paw Cafe. Behind it, two separate apartment buildings would be built, also four stories high, with shopping on the ground floor and three floors of housing above.

The three main buildings would be interconnected with existing shopping along Main Street and Tabernacle Street via winding publicly-owned pedestrian areas. The nearby Greengate Village would be remade into walkable retail space. The Spectrum
