Yes, the Census Bureau has started to release 2010 Census data for Utah. However, accessing the information isn't all that easy. This is the first posting for "my" counties (those in central and southwest Utah) to provide some easy access to this solid information we get only once every 10 years. To enlarge the charts, just "click" on them. I'll be gradually adding more charts in the days ahead.
- Washington County's 2010 population measured 138,115 individuals according to recently released 2010 Census data. In the past, population estimates have underestimated the growth in the county's population. Towards the end of this decade, estimates noticeably overshot Washington County's total.
- Between 2000 and 2010, Washington County's population grew by 53 percent--the second fastest rate in the state. In the previous two decades, growth measured closer to 90 percent.
- Washington City proved the fastest growing city in the county during the last decade--with a 129-percent growth rate, Washington City far outranked any other Washington County area.
- The county's largest city, St. George, added almost 23,000 net new residents for a growth rate of 47 percent.
- The population in Rockville remained essentially unchanged between 2000 and 2010. In addition, slower-than-average growth was evident in New Harmony, Springdale, and LaVerkin.
- Currently, more than 14 percent of the county's population belongs to an ethnic or racial minority compared to 9 percent in 2000.
- The Hispanic/Latino population makes up roughly 10 percent of the total population compared to 5 percent in 2000. Latinos make up the largest share of Washington County's minority population.
