Parowan City Council approves commercial area

The Parowan City Council agreed to approve a commercial subdivision at the north end of Main Street in the coming weeks. Engineer Heath Oveson presented the project to the City Council and said the property could bring in new businesses within the next few years.

The North Park Subdivision, near Parowan Airport, has been approved by city planning and zoning committees and cleared with the Division of Wildlife Resources to alleviate any prairie dog concerns, Oveson said. The final steps include checking for liens that may be on the future subdivision lots, and getting the city engineer's approval for the construction drawings.

Answering Mayor Don Landes on how long before construction begins, Oveson said underground improvements could begin as early as this fall and asphalt would be laid in the spring, weather permitting. "There are potential buyers and tenants," Oveson said, but added, "I'm not privy to what those businesses are." The Spectrum
